Colin is a member of the Law Society of Ontario and licensed to practise law since August 2020. He previously completed his articling at the Canadian Foundation for Cross-Cultural Dialogue as part of the University of Ottawa's Law Practice Program. He has over a decade of international career experience in Greater China, as well as throughout Asia, Africa, and Europe. His diverse experience covers both private and non-profit sectors, and includes sales, marketing, and translation in several industries. He has worked in many countries, including South Korea (coordinating a team to win a supply tender for the country's largest steel manufacturer); to Bangladesh (leading a medical-device training course for a national pharmacy chain); and Moldova (assisting in an OSCE-supported minority rights seminar for public-sector professionals), among others.
In the legal field, Colin interned at Zhong Lun Law Firm (one of the largest law firms in China), where he conducted legal research in various areas, and also drafted/revised/translated various types of legal documents, such as memos, contracts, and agreements in several languages. He also has recent academic and practical experience in various aspects of Public Law, including constitutional design and autonomy arrangements, specifically relating to the Gagauz ethnic minority in Moldova, including research for both his MA thesis (written in Mandarin Chinese) and during his law degrees.
Colin's highly-accomplished academic background includes a BSc in Economics (with distinction) from the University of Victoria, and an MA in International Relations from National Taiwan University (taught in Mandarin). His French-taught law degrees in civil and common law include options in both International and Public Law, and he has also studied Chinese Law (in Mandarin), US Law, and International Law at CUPSL in Beijing and STL-PKUSZ in Shenzhen, two of the highest-ranked law faculties in China. He is fluent in English, French, and Mandarin Chinese, holding several proficiency certificates, and also speaks some Russian.
