Sonja Chong, the principal of Sonja Chong Professional Corporation, has been a practising Chartered Professional Accountant since 1985. Her practice focuses on income tax consultation for private corporations, high net-worth individuals, cross-border estate and succession planning, immigrants and emigrants, non-resident investors, and real estate investments. Ms. Chong has presented in over 150 income tax seminars. Ms. Chong was a member of “The Joint Committee on Taxation” of the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants and the Canadian Bar Association from 2009 to 2011. She served on the Board of Governors of the Canadian Tax Foundation from 2004 to 2007. Ms. Chong also co-chaired the Program Committee of the Ontario Tax Conference for a period of 8 years. She was elected a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario (ICAO, now CPA Ontario) in year 2000 for significant contributions to the profession. Ms. Chong served on the Board of Directors of CBC/Radio-Canada from 2014 to 2016. Ms. Chong is a director and the treasurer of the National section of Hong Kong-Canada Business Association ("HKCBA"). She was a former president of HKCBA's Toronto section, and continues to serve on its Board. She assumed the position of Chair and Co-Chair of Canada China Development Foundation, a registered charity, for 9 years. From 1993 to 2003, she served as treasurer and director of the Hong Fook Mental Health Association.
